The Chartered College of Teaching is the professional body for teachers in the United Kingdom, founded in 1846 and granted a royal charter by Queen Victoria in 1849. It was renamed to its current title in 2017, when it also gained the ability to award Chartered Teacher status to recognise an advanced standard of teaching practice. With over 45,000 members worldwide, the organization focuses on raising the status and professionalism of teaching.
